Chancellor of the University of Manitoba (1977 - 1986)
Isabel Auld epitomizes the spirit of volunteerism in Winnipeg. For a span of 30 years, starting in the 1950's, Auld was heavily involved in the local branch of the the Consumers' Association and in the 1960's was a prominent member of the Consumers' Association of Canada. Other volunteer activities included the Family Bureau of Winnipeg, the Middle church Home of Winnipeg, Klinic Inc., Mount Carmel Clinic, the United Way, Canada World Youth and the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg.
From the '60's through to the latter part of the '80's, she was almost a fixture at the University of Manitoba, holding many volunteer positions, including members of the Board of Governors, and founder member of the Centre on Aging. Auld served as the University's ninth chancellor from 1977-86.
Auld also was a board member of the Health Sciences Centre from 1980-89, chairing the board in 1988-89 and served as its representative on the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.
Auld also received Manitoba's Order of the Buffalo Hunt in 1986, honorary degrees from the University of Saskatchewan (1979) and from the University of Manitoba (1986), and the Order of Canada in 1989.
